Serranas once again made itself known to the world, this time at the 14th edition of the World Spice Congress, which took place from September 15th to 17th, 2023, in Navi, Mumbai, Maharashtra. The congress was organised by the Spices Board in association with leading exporters and trade bodies in India.

Since its inception in 1990, the WSC has successfully brought together global perspectives on the spice sector, advancing examinations in nutraceuticals and neotropics.

Spices have progressed significantly from their traditional culinary role to become remarkable assets in food preservation, safety, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, natural dyes, and more.

The event boasted an attendance of 825 Indian delegates and 132 international delegates from 33 countries, making it the world’s largest spice event.

Some of the spices that stood out at the grand event included cardamom, chili, pepper, ginger, turmeric, coriander, fenugreek, cumin, fennel, mint and herbs, nutmeg and mace, garlic, and cloves.
